Tribute to Nina

We’re still processing the sad news of the passing of Nina Mühe of CLAIM, our friend, colleague and partner on our joint work to reset the public narrative on Islam and Muslims in Germany. We’ve been moved by the beautiful tributes from colleagues to her important and brave work and lovely spirit, and it’s been inspiring to learn more about the wide reach and deep impact of Nina’s work over her career as a researcher and advocate.

We first met Nina a decade ago in her role as the Berlin researcher in the “At Home in Europe” project of the Open Society Foundations and her work proved to be the foundation for a successful NGO anti-discrimination advocacy campaign. Since then, we experienced Nina’s consistent role as a visionary catalyst for ambitious social change, especially in her leading role in building up the strategic and diverse CLAIM Allianz to tackle anti-Muslim racism. In our work together, Nina continually proved how persistent, brave and positive she was in her strong will to tackle the most challenging issues, never losing sight of the end goals of justice, diversity and social cohesion. Alas, we now have to press on without Nina, but inspired by her memory, we shall strengthen our resolve to work on delivering the values we share of an open and inclusive society.

Our sincere condolences to her family, friends, the CLAIM team and network, and wider colleagues in the diversity and anti-racism fields.
